Angola: National Team Victories in Beijing With Different Particularity

22 September 2008

Luanda — The victories of the national team of disabled people achieved in the recently ended Paralympics of Beijing (China) take a different particularity as compared with others, being the first after the country's legislative election of September 5.

This was said Sunday in Luanda by the deputy minister of Sports, Albino da Conceição.

Speaking to journalists during a ceremony of homage to the athletes upon their arrival at Luanda's "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, the official stated that "we are enjoying a new period of our existence, this is the particularity and the importance of what the youths, once again, could do in the Paralympics of Beijing".

In the China's games, Angola won three silver medals in the 100, 200 and 400 metres contests, by the runner José Armando Sayovo, in addition to their participation in three more finals, one of which a 4 x 100 metres relay.

Albino da Conceição stated that many might wonder why Angola has won silver medals only. He explained that the times set for the just-ended edition were higher than those of the 2004 edition, held in Athens, Greece, in which the national team got three golden medals.
