Tanzania: End of The Road for Country 's Latoya

Robert Kalumba

23 September 2008

"I will bring change to Africa," is the reply Latoya gave KB, when he asked her why she would like to go back to the house. With a sigh of relief, Africa will not be seeing any fundamental changes courtesy of Latoya, after it overwhelmingly voted the Tanzanian out, making her the first evictee of BBA3.

It all went wrong for Latoya, the moment she entered the house, and deployed the - don't put all your eggs in one basket- theory, in relation to her tryst with Morris and Ricco. The Tanzanian forgot that in our "biased" African culture, fooling around with two people's feelings is reserved for men not women.

The voting public can "accommodate" Ricco's fooling around with any woman he wants, (even allow BBA2's Richard, a serial wife cheater to win the money) but when it comes to a woman doing the same, Africa is quick to pull out their knives, ready to stab you.

So when Latoya got Morris excited, and then jumped ship to Ricco, doing so with a cheeky smile, and a confession in the diary room that "it's all a game," she evoked sympathy from the viewers for both Morris and Ricco, and in the process, invited on herself the wrath of all those who considered what she was doing as "bad manners", hence the whopping 11 countries voting her out.

But another problem for the poor girl was, she was (and still is) delusional. Latoya really believed Ricco "had a thing" for her. When asked by KB who she thinks will miss her most after her departure, "Doh...I'm blushing, of course Ricco!" Latoya, if Ricco is to "miss you", why is he already trying to share a bed with Lucille. Moreover, why didn't he save you from the nominations? Is it me, or don't some women amaze you for being either stupid, stupid or totally stupid? Even when the signs show he is not interested, they are still interested.

Latoya believes what the Big Brother experience showed her is that, "I don't do well with crowds." She also stated that the same experience of Big Brother, will make her "famous and successful," because that has been her major aim in life. "Now my name will be in the newspapers, people will know who I am. Every time I used to walk around, no one knew me, and that hurt, but now they know," stated a delusional Latoya. Poor girl, she has forgotten it will be more like 15 minutes of fame, and that is it.

Tawana meanwhile is back in the house. Hopefully, we won't see any carried over grudges with Thami, but it will be interesting to see how she will get back with TK, (with whom they passionately kissed), who has not only "moved on" with Sheila, but happens to be this week's Head of House, and has the power to save anyone up for nomination.

Tawana, who thanked Africa for bringing her back in the house, had previously shown signs of a mental breakdown of sorts, with her saying she wants to go home, then later sobbed in the diary room, saying she doesn't want to leave the house this soon.

Hopefully she has made peace with the demons that disturbed her, and she is ready to play the game, for I don't see any more mercy coming from Africa, in the form of saving her from the guillotine. As for Latoya, its good riddance.
