A National Resistance Movement party group, campaigning for President Yoweri Museveni's fourth term in office have defended Libyan envoy, Abdullah Bujeldian over recent undiplomatic remarks he made on Uganda politics.

The NRM group under the umbrella Revolutionary Committee Movement (RCM) said yesterday, Ambassador Bujeldian's call to Ugandans to elect President Museveni for a fourth term was re-echoing what the Libyan leader, Col. Muammar Gadaffi said during his visit to Uganda in March, this year.

Last week, the long-serving Libyan Ambassador made it part of his diplomatic duty to appeal to Ugandans to elect Mr Museveni to yet another term because he has "done very excellent work" and, besides, he is a revolutionary.

"Revolutionaries like President Museveni do not need to be changed because they fought for a cause," said the ambassador, flashing four fingers to drive home his message that Mr Museveni deserves a fourth elective term.

"To all Muslims in Uganda," the diplomat added, "remember 2011 is coming [and] you must remember to support President Museveni."

"Libya has always supported the NRM revolution. The ambassador could not have been wrong to say this revolution should continue to guide the country for the betterment of Uganda and the African continent," the RCM national coordinator, Mr Emma Katabazi said.

RCM Uganda chapter comprises members of Parliament, security, students, war veterans and businesspeople allied to NRM. It is sponsored by RCM Libya, which Col. Gadaffi is a patron.

Mr Katabazi accused the media of criticing the envoy over the remarks he made in support of the 4th term.
