Freetown — Acting chairman of political parties' registration commission, PPRC Friday has set aside September 22, 2008 as the final ultimatum to political parties that contested the local council elections but have refused to submit their post election reports.
Roland Adel Caesar who was addressing a one-day clinic on political financing at the commission's Tower Hill office in Freetown said the session was organized in a bid to ensure that political parties comply with section 22 of the Political Parties Act 2002.
He said any political outfit was mandated by law to submit a detailed expenditure it incurred within 60 days after the declaration of elections.
Caesar said: "The political finance reporting system is a novelty in the democratic process that was introduced by the PPRC in this country. It is also worthy to note that the system will build confidence between party members and their leaders." He warned that all political parties, as a matter of obligation, must comply with provisions in the act.
The commission's acting chairman commended the Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) as the only party to have submitted its report while the All Peoples Congress, Sierra Leone Peoples Party, and the National Democratic Alliance were yet to submit theirs.
"I am calling on all political parties that have not yet submitted their post election reports to do so before deadline," he said.
Robert Sheku Abdulai, said: "This practice is not new in the world but for Sierra Leone it is a new evolution" and called on political parties to comply with the commission's deadline.
