New York — The governments of Angola and of Uruguay on Monday here signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between both countries.
The documents were signed by the respective Foreign Affairs Ministers, João Bernardo de Miranda, for Angola, and Gonzalo Fernandez, for Uruguay, who are in the USA attending the discussions of the 63rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The memorandum was negotiated following visit paid by the head of the Angolan diplomacy to Uruguay last July and foresees to promote and strengthen cooperation between both countries and the reinforcement of friendship ties between Angolan and Uruguayans.
Sharing of information, development of a dialogue that includes bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest, as well as cooperation at various forums and international organs, in the United Nations, in particular, and which foresees periodic consultations between the two countries.
During the debates, both ministers shared viewpoints concerning bilateral relations and the implementation of the "Luanda Action Plan" on the "South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone", a forum that is currently chaired by Angola and whose chairmanship shall be taken over by Uruguay as from next year.
