Journalists for human rights, JHR a Canadian-based media capacity-building organization in Sierra Leone would award journalists from three media houses for excellence in human rights reporting.
The categories of prizes would include a digital recorder (radio prize), video recorder (TV prize) and digital camera (newspaper prize).
A release from JHR stated: "The award will be given to the three media houses that accomplished the following: Create awareness and or inspire change; and produce stories using interviews with people affected by human rights issues."
The statement called on media houses to submit an entry only in their genres.
The award criteria include submission of top five human rights stories (in clips or tapes published or aired between February 1 and September 30, 2008).
All stories must be local (Sierra Leonean) focus and a Sierra Leonean journalist must be one of the authors of any human rights story submitted.
The top five stories selected would receive journalism book prizes.
Stories must be submitted in a sealed envelope, bearing the complete information of the media house and address.
