Luanda — Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos this Wednesday here granted an audience to the Papal Ambassador to Angola, Ângelo Beccuni, bearer of a personal message of Pope Benedict IVI.
At the end of the meeting of about 30 minutes, Ângelo Beccuni did not reveal to the press the context of the message, considering it as "reserved", but, according to him, "Angola is in the heart of the Pope".
"It was a courtesy meeting that was also availed to express my congratulations to the good civic attitude shown by Angolans during the elections", assured the Pope's nuncius.
To him, it was with great happiness that he witnessed the good behaviour of Angolans, who "now have a great responsibility, and should focus on the future because there are a lot of challenges and we hope that the new government officials can meet the demands of the Angolan population".
Still according the Papal Ambassador, the party (MPLA) that won the legislative polls now has more responsibilities and should show their capacity to manage the results achieved.
He stressed that fact that the Church greatly contributed, during the pre-electoral period, to the sensitising of citizens to respect the rules of sociability and democracy.
