Kampala — Stanbic Bank has donated five sewing machines and fabrics to Crisis Pregnancy and Counselling Centre.

Philip Odera, the Stanbic bank managing director, handed over the donation to the charity group's chairperson Marcella Mukasa, at their headquarters in Old Kampala, last week.

"Stanbic is pleased to give the girls a second chance by supporting them to acquire life long skills which they can use to earn a living in future." Odera added the donation was in recognition of the good job the centre is doing supporting the girls.

He noted it is sad society marginalises girls though women are the backbone of society.

Mukasa said the centre has handled 100 teenage mothers since 2005. She said 74 babies who would have been aborted or thrown away have been born at center.

"Girls who become pregnant while at school often find themselves rejected by their parents and the men who impregnant them."

"The centre provides temporary shelter to these young mothers who are usually homeless due their plight," she said.
