THE SOD-cutting ceremony, for the commencement of construction of a dormitory block for the Adullam Orphanage, by Atlas Copco Ghana Limited, a sub-contractor of AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, was on Wednesday performed.
Ms. Susana Manu, Officer in charge of Communications and Human Resources at Atlas Copco Ghana Ltd., performed the ceremony for the $13,000 dormitory block, which is expected to be completed by the end of November, this year.
Ms. Manu, who said the gesture was in response to a request by the orphanage, expressed her outfit's commitment towards its corporate social responsibilities.
"When we were approached by the orphanage, we realised it was part of our corporate social responsibilities towards education and health, hence the assistance."
She explained that apart from the construction of the dormitory, the company was also currently building two classroom blocks for the Anyinam Methodist School.
The Communications and Human Resources Officer called on all stakeholders to assist in ensuring that the orphans realised their potentials, and added that "we should all help in building the communities in which we operate."
The Executive Director of the Orphanage, Pastor Louise Timothy, explained that the home, which was established some ten years ago, now had 187 inmates.
He commended the management of Atlas Copco Ghana Limited, and appealed to other institutions to emulate their example.
Present at the ceremony were Messrs Drew Timothy and Peter U. Beidu, Aftermarket Manager and Manager of Atlas Copco and Adullam Orphanage, respectively.
