The Anambra state government has assured two communities of employment opportunities for acquiring their land meant for erection of refineries as soon as the project kicks off.
Governor Peter Obi, who revealed this in Awka, also made a cheque presentation of N70million saying the gesture was in line with the state governments policy to compensate those whose land was acquired for government projects.
The two communities involved in governor Obi's gestures are Oroma-Efifi Anam and Enugnu Nsugbe in Anambra east local government area where the proposed Orient Petroleum refineries will be built.
He advised the communities to partner with government and Orient Petroleum resources to ensure peaceful and corporate environment that would guarantee and sustain fruitful completion of the project.
The commissioner for lands, Mr. Peter Afuba, noted that the land was acquired without compensation by the previous administration, while on assumption of office.
Obi approved that land owners be compensated explaining that adequate measures have been taken to ensure that the money was paid only to genuine owners of the land.
He encouraged various communities in dispute over land ownership to resolve their differences before claiming compensation from government.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr. Ifeanyi Emoho, expressed his appreciation to the government for the gesture saying the compensation was the first of its kind in the state.
