The publicity secretary of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, (CNPP), Osita Okechukwu, has described the 16 month old government of National Unity, GNU involving the PDP/Yar'Adua administration, the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP) as the contraption of the leadership of the party (ANPP) to serve their selfish interest.
According to Osita Okechukwu, there was nothing like the GNU in the memorandum of understanding signed between both parties at the inception of the arrangement.
His remark was against the background of events in the week, when the ANPP national chairman Chief Edwin Ume Ezeoke reaffirmed his party's involvement in the GNU, despite what appeared earlier to be a castigation of the arrangement when Ume Ezeoke paid a visit to the Progressive People Alliance (PPA) new secretariat in Abuja.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, Osita said "I read the agreement or the memorandum of understanding Chief Ume Ezeoke and his cohorts had with the PDP, and there was no mention of a GNU.
He cannot, in all sincerity say that he is leading a party with five governors and he is talking of a GNU, that does not exist in a memorandum he signed."
He said "I am trying to disabuse the mind of the public that there is anything like GNU. As far as the PDP is concerned it is not in the letters and in the spirit of their MoU. They never mentioned it. It was branded about by Ume-Ezeoke and his cronies for their own selfish interest. It does not serve the interest of the ANPP that I belong.
Osita noted that the supposed agreement the ANPP chairman had with the PDP was not done in consultation with the organs of the party before he entered into it."
He did not consult the national executive of the party or the national caucus. It was after he had made the agreement that he consulted them. We stand to be corrected, the records are there he said.
