Angola: World Financial Crisis Dominates International Socialist Debates

28 September 2008

The International Socialist (IS) meeting, in which Angola's ruling MPLA party participated as a full member of this organisation, appealed last Friday in New York to governments and institutions, to work hard in the resolution of the current financial and food crises in the world.

The meeting held at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN), which was attended by MPLA's delegation led by its secretary general, Julião Mateus Paulo "Dino Matrosse", also expressed his concern about issues related to global warming, international peace and security.

The meeting that was held alongside the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly, which started last Tuesday, reviewed the political, economic and social situation in various regions of the world and appealed for solidarity among its members so as to help minimise a few difficulties faced by some members.

The situation in countries such as Zimbabwe, Georgia, Mongolia, Serbia, Somalia, Sudan, Haiti, among others, facing political crisis or humanitarian catastrophes, deserved a special discussion by the International Socialist meeting.

Besides Julião Mateus Paulo, who is the current deputy chairman of IS, the delegation of the Angolan ruling party comprises the MPLA secretary for Foreign Affairs, Paulo Teixeira Jorge, among other senior officials of this political organisation.
