Nairobi — The government will set up trauma centres along major highways in the country to help in during emergencies.
Medical services minister Prof Anyang Nyong'o said the centres would bring the services closer and save lives in the event of road accidents.
The centres would also be well equipped to offer first aid, he said at a thanksgiving ceremony in his Kisumu home over the weekend.
And a week-long festival of arts on diversity of culture for the peoples around Lake Victoria is set to begin on Monday.
Over 1,000 artistes drawn from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi are expected at the fete, said festival director, Mr Albert Wandago.
Activities include music shows, dances, paintings, fine arts, sculpture and fashion and design.
