Ado-Ekiti/Asaba — Governor Segun Oni of Ekiti State yesterday charged Muslims in Nigeria to remain dedicated to the service of Allah and humanity, saying the lessons of the Ramadan fasting period should not be lost on them.
Oni gave the charge in his goodwill message to Moslems on the occasion of the of Id-el-Fitr celebrations which marks the end of the Ramadan fast.
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, on his part, called on Muslims in the State to imbibe the true teachings of Prophet Muhammad which preach and encourage peace, unity and regions tolerance in the country.
He implored all political and religious leaders including their followers to show more commitment, sincerity and sensitivity for the welfare of their brothers and sisters in all their actions and decisions.
In Anambra State, Governor Peter Obi rejoiced with the Muslims over the successful completion of the rites of the month of Ramadan, which includes fasting and alms-giving.
He said "the month of Ramadan, just like the Lenten period, reminds us of so many things, especially the need to leave virtuous lives," adding " the period calls on all men of goodwill to adhere to the lessons of that period and promote ennobling acts that will see to the growth and development of our country."
Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in his Sallah message enjoined muslims to let the lessons learnt during the month-long fast permeate their lives and radiate in their relationship with fellow beings.
Specifically, he advised that having shuned all forms of vices in the days the fasting lasted, nothing should make them backslide into those vices again.
Prince Oyinlola also urged the people to use the Sallah period coinciding with the Independence of the nation to pray for the country and the people so that the blessings of God Almighty would abide in the lives of all.
Also, the gubernatorial Candidate of the Action Congress (AC) in Ekiti State , Dr. Kayode Fayemi in his goodwill message to Muslims called for more unity and peaceful co-existence between Muslims and the people of other religions. Fayemi, who noted that the period of Ramadan afforded the Muslims to move closer to God as a result of which they became spiritually uplifted, further advised them not to go back to the vices which they have dropped during the Ramadan period.
