Mafolofolo men's volleyball team is in for a tough battle when they meet BDF VI in the BMW Capital Motors Cup final at the Otse Police College tomorrow.
After struggling to reach the final, Mafolofolo comes up against a formidable BDF VI side boasting good players like Lee Tshipana and the towering Francis Dingwe.
Soldier-dominated BDF VI have won more cups than any other volleyball club in the country while the once dreaded Mafolofolo have been on the wane in recent times. BDF VI players have international exposure as they have participated in continental games. Discipline is the major recipe that seems to work for the army side. There is no doubt that Mafolofolo meet a team that has everything.
Mafolofolo captain Rongeree Kanguavia believes they will compete well though they have not been able to train adequately as most of their players are students. Coach Kabo Ntshinogang is said to be out of the country for further studies. However, Kanguavia said they will not use these as an excuse not to perform well. He said BDF VI is a team just like any other and they are not going to give them special respect. Kanguavia said they are not under pressure as they go into the game as underdogs and nothing much is expected from them.
He added that BDF VI is a tough side and supporters must come to rally behind them. He said that enroute to the final, they meat tough opponents which gave them a hard time.
Mafolofolo beat Itekeng 3-0 in a lukewarm semi-final to book a place in the last stage. Kanguavia said they do not fear BDF VI though they respect them. He said they have met in a number of finals and they know the weaknesses of their opponents.BDF VI coach Selebatso Mabutho said all is well in the camp and that they are ready to do what they are known for.
He said they will treat the game like any other. He encouraged their supporters to come in large numbers to see their team play in the first final of the year. Mabutho said they are under pressure because of what is expected from them. He is, however, cautious and said a final can go either way depending on which team has prepared better. He said Mafolofolo is a good side that will give them good competition. The game kicks off at 3.30pm.
