Kickoff (Cape Town)
29 September 2008
Zimbabwean striker Ralph Matema continued with his superb start to the season at Witbank Spurs when he scored his second goal in only his second game of the season for the modest First Division Inland Stream side when they overcame Winners Park 2-1 away at Peter Mokaba Stadium at the weekend.
Matema, who struck in his debut match against Black Leopards a fortnight ago, was back on the score boards again with the equaliser against Winners Park.
The left-footed striker, currently on a season-long loan at Spurs from Orlando Pirates, leveled the scores in the second half with a typical poacher's header that flew into the far post.
However, Matema didn't finish the match as he was sent off for a second bookable offence later in the game for kicking the ball after the referee had blown the whistle.
By the time the 26-year-old was sent off, he had already given a polished performance especially in the second half when Spurs played with purpose when going forward.
The Zimbabwean connection won the match for Spurs with Patrick Mubayiwa hammering home the winner after a slick move that involved eight passes.
Spurs are relying heavily on the Zimbabwean presence in attack this season with four forwards from across the Limpopo in their squad.
Besides Matema, there is Mubayiwa's twin brother Peter, along with the immensely skilful Ali Sadiki.
