Sierra Leone: Citizens Observe Quds Day

29 September 2008

Sierra Leone joined the rest of the world in solidarity with the people of Palestine to observe international Quds day.

The Iranian consulate Thursday organized a one-day seminar to sensitize Muslims on the importance of the day.

Iranian consul Mohamed Ghezel Sofla informed the audience about the struggles of Palestinians.

He encouraged Sierra Leoneans to support the people of Palestine, adding that "the people of Palestine have suffered for over 60 years. It is important for every human being to have feeling for his or her companion. The day is celebrated every last Friday in the month of Ramadan."

Sofla noted that Sierra Leoneans should not sit down and watch Palestinians suffer as non-Muslims take over their country.

Iranian ambassador to Sierra Leone Dr. Naserula Malike described the day as a memorable one, a day he noted represents unity amongst Muslims.

He said the late Imam Khomeini declared every last Friday in the month of Ramadan as Quds day.

Sheik Ahmed Tejan Sillah called on Sierra Leoneans to support the people of Palestine.
