Namibia: Uushona Ousts Hwata

Namibian welterweight champion Betuel 'Tyson Unstoppable' Uushona beat Zimbabwean opponent Richard Hwata by unanimous decision in their four-round non-title welterweight bout on Saturday.

The event, held at the A Shipena Secondary School, attracted a huge crowd, Dolph Shilunga of the Dolph No Limit Boxing Promoters told Nampa yesterday.

Shilunga said the local pugilist had a brilliant fight with his attacking flair against Hwata.

Uushona, the county's current national welterweight champion, last fought Kanime Kanime during March 2007, and had since then been inactive.

The win on Saturday brought his already impressive record to 15 fights without defeat.

In the undercard fights, junior lightweight Kapapu 'The Hammer' Samuel beat Tendai Sanyarukova of Zimbabwe by unanimous decision in the four-round bout, taking his record to three fights, two wins and one loss.

Lightweight boxer Peter Malakia defeated fellow countryman Philip Swartbooi by a technical knockout in their four-round bout.

Malakia brought his record to eight fights, four wins and four losses.

In the flyweight division, Joseph 'Smokey' Hilongwa beat Tinashe Mwadziwana of Zimbabwe by unanimous decision in the four-round bout, bringing his record to four fights and four wins.

Heavyweight boxer Modestus Mwatile defeated compatriot Toivo Kamati also by unanimous decision, taking his record to two fights and two wins.

In the amateur division, Festus Nghidinwa (60 kg) lost to Chris Uukdo (60 kg) in their four-round bout, while David Gabriel (54 kg) beat France Iita (54 kg), also in a four-round bout.

The third amateur bout saw 'Mr Bean' Shangula (69 kg) beating Jackson Nambinga (69kg) by unanimous decision in the four-round bout.

Meanwhile, Shilunga said he plans to hold a boxing tournament either at Walvis Bay or Oshakati early in December this year.
