The Windhoek municipality is still waiting for N$23 million to be paid for two enormous pieces of land Government had taken to build the new State House complex and a helicopter landing pad opposite the site.

Dr Albert Kawana, Minister of Presidential Affairs and acting Attorney General, told Parliament on Thursday that his office was waiting for the municipality to consolidate the two huge chunks of land, valued at about N$23 million some five years ago.

"Progress is being made on the matter but we also wait for the finalisation to compensate nearby private home owners whose properties were identified to be bought and also incorporated into the land," Kawana responded to a question by McHenry Venaani of the DTA opposition party.

"Once that is all sorted out everything can be finalised - hopefully by the end of this year," Kawana added.

The huge tracts of municipal land seized by Government to have the new N$1 billion State House constructed by North Korean builders includes a public road, which was closed, contrary to municipal regulations.

A borehole belonging to the City of Windhoek is also situated on the land and is now inaccessible to the municipality.
