Accra — Children of various churches, mosques, schoolsand organisations would hold a prayer session in Accra and other jubilee parks in the country as part of efforts to ensure peaceful elections.
A statement signed by Miss Freda Ofori, Children's Events Coordinator of Royal Protocol Services said the growing tension among some key political parties could destabilise the nation, putting women and children at risk.
In line with all these, Royal Protocol Services was putting up a programme dubbed: "when children pray for election 2008," expecting over 5000 children from various churches, mosques and other organisations," it said.
The statement said a peaceful and hopeful message would be made by all the presidential candidates of the various political parties to assure the children and the general public of their unflinching support for a peaceful election.
"Children between the ages of 4-18 years would be having prayer sessions to ask God for divine intervention in the upcoming election. This is a national prayer and it is all over the regional capitals and non-denominational," it said.
The statement said children should encourage and influence their parents for a peaceful election.
"Children had a collective responsibility to ensure that the upcoming general election was conducted in a peaceful manner," it said.
The statement said the programme, which was being supported by the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs would be launched on September 30, 2008. GNA
