South Africa: Country Sends Condolences to Syria Following Attacks

Pretoria — The South African government has extended its condolences to the government and people of Syria following terrorist attacks in the Syrian capital Damascus on Saturday.

The terrorist operation in a crowded area led to 17 lives being claimed and 14 others wounded. All were civilians.

"The government of the Republic of South Africa condemns in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attacks that occurred in Damascus, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult period," a statement released by Foreign Affairs said.

Government called for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Preliminary investigations by specialised security bodies in Syria have revealed the work of a suicide bomber.

The terrorist operation has been strongly and widely condemned on Arab and international fronts including by the United Nations Security Council , UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and by Arab, regional and international organisations.
