The Fako Elements Cultural Association, FECA Yaounde, Saturday, September 27, honoured some 23 students from Fako Division for their outstanding performances at the 2008 session of the GCE General and Technical examinations.

The awards, which is now in its third year, according to FECA President, Bernard Eko, was initiated with the objective of motivating students of Fako Division to take up their studies with extreme seriousness. The number of beneficiaries moved from seven last year to 23 this year with laureates receiving prizes ranging from FCFA 70,000 to FCFA 30,000.

Already, five of the laureates were said to be on the National Honour's Roll. The awards have thus become a motivating factor for Fako students, especially as most of them are now excelling, The Post learnt.

She urged them to be industrious, cultivate positive values and believe in themselves. "Cameroon will be sick if Bakwerians continue to remain behind... You can be a Barack Obama," she said.

Buea Mayor, Charles Mbella Moki, on his part, said FECA's actions will open many windows of opportunities for the young people. He called for collaboration for the development of the Bakweri people.

The MP for Buea Urban, Hon Adolph Ngalle, who represented the Adviser at the PM's Cabinet, Hon Paul Njie Meoto, also encouraged Fako children to be hard working.Meanwhile, some ten students of the Government High School, GHS, Bonjongo, who recorded outstanding results in the last session of the General Certificate of Education, GCE, Ordinary and Advanced Levels, recently received FCFA 100,000 each.

The Delegate, while addressing the students, challenged the present finalists of the college to do better in the next session of the GCE so that the Southwest Province could boast of the overall best candidate.

The Principal of the College, Macaulay Joseph Musinga, stated that Dr. Njie has kept the promise he made when he visited the school. "This scholarship has brought smiles to the homes of the laureates and their future is assured," said Musinga.

He added that Dr. Njie did not only end at awarding scholarships, but he also sent his Bulldozer to raze the school's stony play ground.Dr. Henry Njie was represented by his father, Mola Joseph Njie.
