The Fon of Babungo and President of Ngoketunjia Fons Union, HRH Fon Ndofoa Zofoa II, has identified pride in Fon Chafah and Nico Halle as the cause of the on going rife between the two.
In a chat with The Post recently in Ndop, Fon Zofoa described Fon Chafah and Nico Halle as "proud people." In the words of the President of Ngoketunjia Fon's Union, "Nico Halle is a proud man and Fon Chafah is a proud man as well. Two proud people came together and fire is now coming out."
Fon Zofoa described the situation as "unfortunate." He said he didn't know anything about the "infighting" between Chafah and Nico Halle. "However, we are struggling to put the two together and make friendship," Fon Zofoa said.
Fon Ndofoa Zofoa III who is also National Publicity Secretary of Northwest Fons Union, NOWEFU, said Nico Halle's role in NOWEFU is that of a messenger of the Fons."Ntumfor was crowned as messenger and he remains as such," Fon Zofoa said.
Meanwhile, Fon Ndofoa Zofoa III, in his capacity as President of Ngoketunjia Fons Union, led a delegation of Fons and some elite to the Prime Minister, PM, on September 19.In the meeting with the PM, Fon Zofoa said the Fons of Ngoketunjia presented a two-page memorandum "to President Paul Biya, through the PM."The memorandum contains a series of demands by Ngoketunjia Fons, from the government.
Some of the demands are described as "age old" they include tarring 16km of the Ring Road and Ndop to Babessi, creation of a full fledged State University in the Northwest Province, upgrading ENS Bambili to first and second cycles, and the creation of an Anglo Saxon Higher Technical Teacher Training College. He said the Fons of Ngoketunjia also urged government to revamp the activities of UNVDA Ndop, an enterprise that can supplement the rice shortage in Cameroon.
Other demands by Ngoketunjia Fons included appointment of Ngoketunjia sons and daughters to posts of responsibility, creation of a parliamentary constituency for Babessi Sub Division, provision of rural electrification and improvement of farm-to-market roads.
The Fons also asked government to ameliorate their remuneration."It is disheartening to note that a second class Fon is given less than FCFA 15,000 per month, as an auxiliary of the administration" the memorandum pointed out.
Commenting on the memorandum, one of the elite in the delegation to the PM, Dr. Michael Vabi, said the main issues raised were in the interest of the entire Northwest Province. "We looked at issues that would benefit the entire country though we didn't fail to think of ourselves and of the people of Ngoketunjia." Vabi said.
