South Africa: Tycoons Have Edge Over Students

The Absa Premiership clash tomorrow night at Olympia Park between Platinum Stars and Bidvest Wits will be their ninth league encounter since the 2003/04 football season.

The Tycoons have had the better of the Clever Boys in their previous eight matches, running out victorious on three separate occasions, whereas the Students have only ever beaten the Lions of the North once; in their first ever meeting.

However, Wits coach Roger de Sa will certainly favour his side's chances as they have had a great start to the season: The Students are currently sitting second on the log after collecting seven points from their first three matches.

Furthermore, Wits are the only team in the league this far that have yet to concede a League goal.

The eight previous games between the two clubs have produced 17 goals; ten for Platinum Stars and seven for the Clever Boys.

Stars, on the other hand, would appear to have had a relatively average start to the season collecting four points from their first three matches.

However, all the points they have collected thus far in the season have been away from home, beating AmaZulu 1-0 and drawing to Golden Arrows, 1-1, in their last fixture.

This, plus their good record against Wits, could give them an edge

In the corresponding fixture last season the teams played to a boring 0-0 draw. The last time they met in the 2007/08 season, Stars walked away 2-1 winners thanks to a brace of goals from Tshepo Ramokala.

Both Phikolethu Spelman of Wits and Robinson Renteria of Stars are sitting on two goals for the season and are top scorers for their respective clubs.

Kick-off is at 19h30.
