Kampala — BRIAN Umony does not tell many stories about himself though occasionally he makes an exception.
After enduring the pain of two morale-sapping back-to-back defeats which KCC FC has suffered in the last seven days, the striker has spoken about the pain of defeat after going 20 matches unbeaten.
"It has been a nightmare for me. At times I have failed to sleep or failed to eat," he states.
Uganda's football player of the year and KCC lead forward however took some of the heat off under-fire club boss George Nsimbe yesterday by reassuring worried fans over their side's recent faltering form.
The 19-year-old spoke out on Nsimbe's behalf after their 3-1 loss to Bunamwaya on Sunday and stated: "Trust me. There's no crisis."
Criticism had still been rife since their lacklustre 2-1 defeat to Simba earlier that ended their 20-match unbeaten run.
There are misgivings over the way KCC have suddenly looked vulnerable, and the two defeats literally intensified concerns over their abilities to match last season's achievements.
But Umony added: "I'm asking the fans to trust me when I say there is no crisis here.
"We have fantastic players and a good manager and we will get things right again. There's no doubt about that," he stressed.
Having been given the funds to substantially improve his squad this season, Nsimbe is operating against a backdrop of heightened expectations and a mixed start to the season has left the football manager of the year looking as if the pressure is beginning to get to him.
"It's true results haven't been good, but all the top teams go through a dip in form at some stage, and we just have to make sure we play our way through it," the budding striker said.
"We are not performing to the standard we are capable of, but I can assure the fans that will change. We have got a break now, and that will give us the chance to look at things."
