Nigeria: Eid-El- Fitr Celebration - Mica Feeds Hundreds

Yunus Abdulhamid

1 October 2008

The Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA), has fed over three hundred people which the group's leader, Architect Mufadil Bakare, saying it was done as part of the celebrations of the eid-el-fitr marking the end of the Ramadan fast and in continuation of the spirit of sharing imbibed during the fasting month.

Bakare urged Muslim faithfuls to sustain all the good works and acts they practised during the annual fast. He said, "the Ramadan fast has come to teach us self restraince so we should strive to sustain it because if it is possible for us to have restrained ourselves during the Ramadan, not quarrel with other people and equally removed rancour from our minds, we should be able to do it at other times. The Ramadan fast is not just about the food but it has to extend to our day to day life.

We should never cross the limits whether of God, government or with our fellow men."

Architect Mufadil was speaking at the eid-el-fitr get together organised by the organisation at Jabi Lake, in Abuja yesterday.

He said it is an annual programme of the organisation to provide an atmosphere for members and other fellow Muslims to interact and relate in the spirit of the Muslim brotherhood as preached by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him).

"The end of Ramadan is always a mixed feelings for Muslims.

One: it is a joy that Allah has given us the opportunity to go through the spiritual exercise to renew our faith and strengthen our spiritual efforts and secondly; we are worried that we have come back to our normal lives where the influence of Satan is around us. But all the same, we use it to reach out to Muslim to interact."

He continued, "We share food and drinks for all present to make us generally happy and celebrate the Sallah."

Other programmes lined up by the group included going to the villages to provide free food, clothes and medical services.
