Nigeria: Gov Aliyu Sacks Tornadoes Management

Following Niger Tornadoes poor start of the 2008/ 2009 Globacom Premier League, Niger state government has given the boot to the team's management committee. Also fired was chief coach of the team Zakari Baraji who had only spent two months in the club. Niger Tornadoes which also struggled to escape relegation last season had lost three straight matches in the new league season including a defeat to Kaduna United at the Bako Kontagora Memorial stadium on a home ground.

The decision of government to give the red card to the Yusuf Dauda led management committee was the outcome of a stakeholder meeting held behind closed doors at the government house last week Thursday.

Director- General in charge of media and publicity to Governor Babangida Aliyu, Alhaji Bala Abdulkadir in a statement made available to Leadership Sports in Minna, said the decision of the government was to save the team from collapse. Abdulkadir said in the statement that a new management committee headed by one-time chairman and member of the Nigeria football league Malam Suleiman David had been constituted. The Director also addeed that one-time assistant coach of the national female team, the super falcons, Danladi Nasidi was appointed as the new Team manager of the club with Alhaji Umar Abdullahi to serve as the secretary of the club.

At the stakeholders meeting Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu lamented the poor performance of the team in the league so far even after the government had spent over N150 million to enable it improve on its lasts season performance and go ahead as tasked to win the league and challenge cup.
