Angola: U.S. Diplomat Happy With Parliament's Inauguration

Luanda — The ambassador of the United States of America to Angola, Dan Mozena, expressed last Tuesday his satisfaction at the swearing-in of the members of the Angolan National Assembly (Parliament), as a result of the legislative elections held on 5 September, this year.

The US diplomat who expressed his satisfaction to ANGOP, in Luanda, on the fringes of the swearing-in ceremony, considered the date of 30 September 2008 as a historic landmark for Angolan people, since it inaugurates a new phase in the process of consolidating democracy in Angola.

The diplomat stressed that to him the date was very special, because that was the second, after 16 years, that Angola was inaugurating a new legislature.

On his turn, the Portuguese ambassador, Francisco Ribeiro Telles, considered that Angola is experiencing a singular moment.

"I think it is a firm step taken by Angolan in the path of peace and democracy, and I believe that the new National Assembly will work for the country's development", he underlined.

The Portuguese diplomat said that he hopes that the MPs who were sworn in last Tuesday correspond to the expectations of the voters, by materialising multiple tasks in different levels.

Francisco Ribeiro Telles also hopes that the Angolan and Portuguese parliaments continue to consolidate the bilateral relations and that there may be more interchange between the MPs of these two countries.
