Kampala — UGANDA Railways Corporation (urc) has called for bids for the supply of railway wagon overhaul spares and materials, a URC notice has said.
The project is going to be funded by the German Development Bank, KfW.
KfW and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) were the major financiers of the Kenya-Uganda Railways concession that was won by Rift Valley Railways (RVR).
Bidders can inspect the bidding documents from the URC procurement officer, Allen Namale, in Room 6, first floor at URC headquarters on Plot 53, Nasser Road in Kampala.
The documents cost sh1.6m or $1,000 and are obtainable after a written request.
More information can be obtained from anamale@ugandarailways.co.ug and allenmale@yahoo.co.uk.
Bids should be delivered by October 22 at 3.00pm with a bid security of 30,000 euros (sh70m).
They will be opened on the same day.
RVR won the concession to operate the Kampala-Kenya railway line in 2006. However, it has experienced financial problems.
Brown Ondego, the executive chairman, has promised to revamp the railway network.
