Federal Government under the newly designed Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangement, has perfected every arrangement towards building one million units of houses in five states of the country.
Chief Chuka Odom, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, disclosed this to journalists yesterday in Owerri, Imo State.
The minister, who represented President Umaru Musa Yar'adua in a grand reception in the honour of Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State, staged by the people of Mbaitoli / Ikeduru Federal Constituency, maintained that such remarkable shift in the housing policy became imperative, considering the rapidly grown population of the country which is now above 150 million people .
He explained that Federal Government alone cannot afford to build the needed houses for her citizens, considering the inadequacy of funds.
Under the PPP, a Finance Mortgage System (FMS) is designed to provide opportunities for individuals to raise funds for which they can build their own houses while government makes provisions for the needed infrastructure to that effect.
While commenting on the event proper, the minister, who equally hails from Mbaitoli / Ikeduru Federal Constituency, disclosed that the major purpose of the reception was to demonstrate the people's solidarity to Ohakim's government as well as drawing his attention to the myriad of problems confronting the area.
