Nigeria: Yar'Adua to Declare North Summit Open

President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua will declare open the Northern Nigeria Economic and Investment Summit (NEIS 2008) on Monday, October 6, 2008.

According to a statement from the chairman of the Conference of Northern States Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (CONSCCIMA), Alhaji Jani Ibrahim, the summit is expected to be declared open by Yar'Adua by 9.30am and it would last three days.

It also stated that Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the United Nations Under-secretary, and Shaukat Aziz, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, would also be at the summit. While Gambari would be addressing the Plenary session along with Governor Namadi Sambo of Kaduna State and Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State (chairman, Northern Governors' Forum), Shaukat Aziz would deliver the keynote address.

Other notable speakers include Prof Ibrahim Ayagi, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu Deen, Chief Cecilia Ibru, Musa Lance Elakama, Musa El-Faki, Justice Ayoola, Nuhu Abubakar Danburam, Prof Pat Utomi, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Steven Lande from the USA, Mrs Evelyne Oputu, Prof A S Sambo, Alhaji Wada Maida, Monsignor Mathew Kukah, Abdul Waheed Omar (NLC President), Ambassador Tunji Olagunju, and governors Isa Yuguda and Murtala Nyako.

Former President Abdulsalami Abubakar is expected to be the chairman of the opening dinner while His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, III, the Sultan of Sokoto and grand patron of CONSCCIMA will be the chief host.
