Ilorin — Former Vice Chairman, Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, Kwara State, Alhaji Ismail Agboola yesterday called for more involvement of public private partnership in the development of football in the country.

Ismail in a chat with THISDAYSPORT in Ilorin yesterday said that, the involvement of these private investors became imperative in order to address the tapping of talented players that abound in the nation's grassroots.

According to him: "There is no doubt that football ownership is capital intensive and requires the financial support of private partnership so as to enable the club to be developed".

He said that, most of the football clubs in the country cannot be able to withstand the test of time due to low financial patronage especially those either owned by the government or individuals and if there is private partnership in its development, the sky will be limit of its standard. Agboola added that, there should attitudinal change to the involvement of the public and private to this challenge in order to assist the nation's football league to move forward.

On the involvement of the federal government in the conduct of the affairs of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria Football League, the sports philanthropist said that, if the government continues to involve in the affairs of the NFF, there will be a slow achievement in the sports development in the country.

He said that, they should allow the people to elect their leaders rather than playing politics with it as this has continued to bring negative effect to the past outings of the nation in the international participation.

Agboola therefore advise the government to allow best hands to emerge so as to enable them revive the nation's sport development.
