Ghana: Narry Up for Essien's Job

2 October 2008

Moussa Narry recons he can help make Michael Essien's absence a distant memory in Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on October 11.

The former Etoile du Sahel midfielder is one of many players who will be hoping to break into the Ghana midfield in the absence of one of the side's 'untouchables' and has told Milovan Rajevac he can count on him.

"Essien is a big name; he has his own style and I have mine, but we play in the same position and I think I can fill in for him without any problems,"he told JoyFM.

Narry's confidence is on a high after breaking into the starting pack at French side Auxerre following his summer transfer from African Champions League winners Etoile du Sahel.

He has been in and out of the national team in the past but is confident the move to the French top flight and regular football will enhance his chances of becoming a more consistent member of the Black Stars.

The decision on who replaces Essien in the Ghana midfield is one of the key issues Rajevac will have to deal with for the crucial Lesotho game.

Stephen Appiah stepped in for him in the game against Libya but is likely to play a more advances role in the absence of Laryea Kingston.
