Luanda — Angola will host the main celebration of the World Habitat Day, October 6, in response to the UN Programme on Human Settlements (UN-Habitat).
According to an official governmental note the celebration of the date is intended to elevate the consciousness on the state of the cities and basic rights, an appropriate housing for all and remember the world about the collective responsibility for human settlement.
The topic for this year, reads the note, focuses on harmonious cities, economy, environment and social harmony among the cities.
Several distinguished United Nations personalities are to attend the event, which will happen for the first time in Africa, with highlight to the UN Under Secretary-General, Anna Tibaijuka, who is also the executive director of the UN-Habitat.
Other invited entities will be African Housing ministers, especially from the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
Besides the main ceremony, several other activities will take place, as from 05 October, in the ambit of the commemorations of this international date.
