Angola: Major Biodiversity Research Defended

2 October 2008

Luanda — The director of the National institute of Cultural Patrimony, Francisco Yambo, Wednesday in Luanda, defended a major scientific research into the biodiversity for a better protection and management of the country's biodiversity.

The official said so while opening the third edition of the Seminar on Natural Sciences and Biodiversity going under the National Museum of Natural History with the purpose of promoting the preservation of the environment in a sustainable way.

According to Francisco Yambo, Angola has one of the continent's richest biological diversities, especially in its ecosystem component, level of endemism of species and flora, hence the reason for a stronger engagement in scientific research and participation in international efforts of defence of the planet's biodiversity.

He stressed that the sustainable use of biodiversity secures a better life quality and other benefits to present and future generations.

The event being attended by biologists, environmentalists, academicians, students, government officials and other local and foreign guests concerned with environment matters, will close Saturday with a visit to the Kissama National Park.
