Muslims in Sierra Leone Wednesday joined others around the world to observe the feast of Eid-ul Fitri prayers which marked the end of Ramadan.
The Eid-ul Fitri was a day set aside for Muslims to give thanks to Allah and receive rewards from for their fasting.
Imam of Jamiul Atiq Mosque at Fourah Bay told worshippers that the Eid-ul Fitri prayer was important because it signals the end of Ramadan each year.
Alhaji Hassan Nuru-Deen Karim said Muslims across the country should observe the day quietly adding that, "Muslims should not do anything sinful."
"Muslims should be aware of what they do after the month of Ramadan. Anything that is forbidden during Ramadan is also forbidden after Ramadan," he said.
Imam Karim said it was forbidden for any Muslim to fast during Eid-ul Fitri, a day set aside to say thanks to Allah for all what He has done for mankind during the month of Ramadan.
"Eid-ul Fitri prayer is meant to reward mankind for fasting 29/30 days during the month of Ramadan," he said.
He advised all Muslims to observe the rules and regulations of Islam and also to obey the command of Allah.
A worshipper Mustapha Koroma said the day was a thanksgiving day.
"The month of Ramadan has cleaned my soul completely. Eid-ul Fitri should not be celebrated by Muslims. It is a day to give thanks to Allah," he said.
