Election fever is mounting in the six councils where the rerun of the elections of municipal councillors will take place later this month; October 26 to be precise. Villagers in such localities are all smiles. And why? Well, they say it's "maquereau" time again. The days of abundance came sooner than expected and they can start nurturing hopes of having a balanced diet. Rice, fish, beef, pork and other niceties will flow in abundance in the days ahead.
Like during all elections, the "Haves" will visit the "Have Nots" to demonstrate their largesse and make big promises. Promises of how lives will be transformed and cities built overnight! Villagers would have the privilege, once again, to feel loved and wanted.
Such prospects of having "generous big ogas" around have created envy in electors of other localities. The whole idea of not being part of the rerun is vexing some people. In effect, voters of some constituencies are biting their fingers, regretting why their constituencies were not "lucky" to be among the six short-listed for rerun. "We missed some good chopping. Next time, we will see", one of such frustrated villagers exclaimed. And since we know the elections are being rerun because of malpractices, your guess as to what "we will see", is as good as mine.
