Nana Odoom, Kumawu-Ash

2 October 2008

A NINE-member Sekyere Afram District Election Security Task Force was been inaugurated in the district capital of Kumawu, last week Thursday.

Its membership comprises representatives from the Police Service, Immigration Service, Fire Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), the Army and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

Other members of the Special Task Force were drawn from the Electoral Office, Information Services Department, and the District Coordinating Council.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Philip Basoah, noted that political parties had stepped up their campaigns, as the December presidential and parliamentary elections were fast approaching, and cautioned members of the Task Force against partiality towards any individual or political party.

He charged the task force to show commitment, in order to disabuse the minds of the public from disregarding the rules, regulations and guidelines set out by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The DCE further charged the task force to hold regular meetings with all stakeholders, to deliberate on the way forward.

He also appealed to the leaders of the various political parties, to endeavour to educate their followers on the electoral laws, to minimise malpractices associated with elections.

The District Superintendent of Police, Mr. Kwabena Owusu, reiterated the call by the DCE for voters to be abreast with the electoral laws, in order not to fall foul of them.

Supt. Owusu, who is the head of the Task Force, asked the Information Services Department to make most of their information vans, and intensify public education campaigns on the December elections.
