Kampala — Former Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) secretary Sande Musoke is dead. Musoke passed away at Kibuli hospital yesterday.

Musoke, 48, had been UABF secretary for the past six years till Roger Ddungu reshuffled his administration in June.

Three-time Olympian Charles Lubulwa mourned Musoke as "a man who had devoted his life to boxing."

As a student and a teacher, Musoke was a big fan of former powerhouse Kololo High School since 1989.

As a teacher he took over as manager of the school team in 1989 till he became UABF secretary in 2002.

Former UABF president Vincent Byarugaba, who worked with Musoke for four years, described him as a man who had a lot of passion for the sport.

"He was a hard working man with a lot of passion for the sport," Byarugaba stated yesterday.

His is set to be buried today afternoon at Busunju.

Frank Sserugo adds that Kassim "The Dream" Ouma's manager Tom Moran believes the Ugandan can still win a world title despite losing his last three fights.

Moran stated in a telephone interview with The New Vision ahead of Ouma's Saturday non-title fight against veteran Martin Clay in Philadelphia, USA.

"Ouma is in for his second half of his boxing career, he ended his first half and had to rest for some time," said Moran. He said the boxer is a world class fighter ready to get back to where he was.

"Kassim trained hard for the Jermain Taylor fight and fought his heart out, but allowed himself to be distracted by other things in his next two fights that he lost."

The former world champion will be out to end a three-fight losing streak to former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, Mexico's Saul Roman and Cornelius "K9" Bundrage early this year.
