Nigeria: Odey Claims Innocence

2 October 2008

Super Falcons assistant coach at the last Olympic Games, Rollanson Odey says he is innocent of charges mentioned against him in a section of the press last week.

A report said he was removed as assistant coach of the team because of allegations of sexual harassment of players leveled against him.

But Rollanson Odey, who is also head coach at Bayelsa Queens, completely denies the allegation.

"I do not know where that reporter got his story from because the NFF did not accuse me of anything. They just said they were restructuring the team so what he wrote was completely out of place.

"I am a disciplinarian and there is no truth in it. I believe he should come out with who told him all the lies he published," Odey told KickOffNigeria.com.

"If someone is accusing me of sexual harassment of players, the person should go to Bayelsa Queens where I work and find out if there is any such thing."

Odey also denied that he was totally responsible for picking players and that he misled the head coach, Jossy Lad who had been out of women football for a long time and depended on him for player information.

"I was the assistant coach of the team and though I had a say, Jossy Lad gave the final word. How can I have decided who played and who does not?

"Lad has over 35 years coaching experience and I have less than 12 so is it possible that I will take over player selection from him? This is the man that coached people like Taiwo Ogunjobi and Segun Odegbami.

"I agree that I had in input in the team but he had the final say because he was and still is the head of the technical crew," Odey said.

"And Jossy Lad has watched a lot of league matches over the years because he was appointed as match commissioner in many matches, so he could have a chance to look at players; so it is all baseless."
