2 October 2008

Luanda — The Ministry of Culture (MINCULTt) will hold from October 15-18 in the central Huambo province the III Meeting on Vernacular Languages, in an effort to recognise and consolidate the country's cultural identity.

According to a press release issued by MINCULT and delivered Thursday to ANGOP, the event, to gather Angolan and foreign experts, will analyse the current situation of vernacular languages, by sharing ideas and experiences on issues related to its development and

introduction into the academic system.

The meeting also aims at encouraging researchers, studious, artists, creators, mainly musicians

and interpreters to reflect on the Angolan linguistic heritage, as well as contributing to the implementation of dignity, unity and preservation of national cultural values, as well as well to set future actions for the standardisation all vernacular languages.

"The holding of this meeting requires particular attention since it is happening at a period when the government is trying to implement the introduction of vernacular languages into academic system", reads the note.
