Angola: Artisan Fishing Centre's Recovery to Cost USD One Million

Luanda — One million dollars is the amount estimated for the works to recover the Centre of Integrated Aid to Artisan Fishing, situated in Luanda's Island, ANGOP learnt this Thursday from an official source.

According to the director of the Artisan Fishing and Aquaculture Development Institute (IPA), Agostinho Duarte, the recovery and its full operation are estimated at over USD one million.

He referred that in this first phase, works to restore the main area of the centre that comprises the cold storage, ice factory and a fuel station are underway, with the aim of assisting fishermen.

With the aid of the municipal administration and of the supervising services, he said that work is also being implemented in terms of cleaning, recovering of fences, closing access routes and sensitising dwellers.

He stated that the second phase comprises the equipping of training departments and the shop of selling fishing materials.

Agostinho Duarte reminded that the centre was handed over, six years ago, to a private entity that due to the lack of financial and management capacity did not keep the premises operating.

IPA is under the responsibility of the Fisheries Ministry and aims at assisting artisan fishermen in the supply of subsidised fuel, ice, cold storage for conserving catches, repairing fishing boats and unloading of catches.
