Nigeria: God's Intervention United the Country - Orji

Oliver Ndife

3 October 2008

Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji of Abia State says God's intervention at critical moments in the history of Nigeria since independence, 48 years ago, have been responsible for the country's continued existence as a united nation.

"Such divine visitations have not only restored order to the nation but manifested God's love for the country".

Orji came to this conclusion after reviewing Nigeria's 48 years of nationhood, adding that "despite several hiccups encountered on the way, God is still very interested in Nigeria as a nation."

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Sam Hart, Orji urged Nigerians to recall those dark periods when it seemed the country was on the verge of disintegration as a result of politically or economically-motivated problems but God intervened "and restored order to a nation in despair."

The governor noted that Nigeria was blessed with abundant natural resources while other nations had little or none to sustain their economy. He therefore, posited that if Nigeria's wealth in the form of natural resources is properly harnessed, Nigeria would surely make it into the league of world class economies.

Orji wholeheartedly expressed support for President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's seven-point agenda, saying it has the potentials of realising the country's Vision 2020.

He advised those charged with implementation of the agenda to adhere to its spirit and letter to be able to achieve proper delivery.

The governor reaffirmed the faith of Abia government and its people in one indivisible, strong and virile Nigeria and urged Nigerians to pray ceaselessly for those in power so that God would use them to actualise His vision for the country.
