Roads maintenance and rehabilitation equipment valued at about N4 billion ordered by the Akwa Ibom State government would soon arrive Nigeria , for use in the state, Chief Godswill Akpabio, the governor disclosed.
"The state government has concluded plans for the establishment of a full-fledged road maintenance and rehabilitation agency capable of intervening even in road construction" he explained.
Akpabio, who spoke when he granted audience to the current Miss Akwa Ibom, Miss Ima Usoro, in the United States of America, at the Government House in Uyo, reiterated the vision of his administration to provide good and motorable roads for the people of the state.
The governor called for the support of indigenes of the state in the diaspora to actualise the policies and programmes of his administration.
On unity, he said: "Akwa Ibom people wherever they are must recognise the need for unity. We must make sure that unity, being our watchword, is also extended to the people in the diaspora".
He maintained that his administration would continue to run the state devoid of sentiments and tribalism as evidenced by the provision of infrastructure and political appointments.
Earlier, the beauty queen, who pledged her support to the free and compulsory education in Akwa Ibom, noted that education was the bedrock of development of any society.
She highlighted her programme to include assistance to orphanage homes, introduction of Pen-pal system for exchange of ideas "to promote the rich cultural heritage of the state".
