Kampala — Land O'Lakes, a private dairy industry development charity, is to set up an artificial insemination centre in Mbale town with funding from the USAID and the US Department of Agriculture.
The country manager of the charity, Dr. Paul Kimbugwe who was speaking at the first cattle show in Mbale at the Cricket Ground, said the project would help farmers improve their herd for both beef and dairy products.
He said the sh10m project would be completed by October this year.
Kimbugwe said the intervention of the charity was to improve milk production and household income of farmers.
Presiding over the function on Friday, the acting agriculture commissioner, the Rev. Sandra Mwebaze, said the Government was to increase milk production to 1.4 billion litres annually and make available 400 million litres for export by 2010.
