3 October 2008

Former Heads of State, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar have given a pass mark to the 15-month-old administration of Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State .

The duo said on Wednesday in Minna when they paid a surprise Sallah homage to the governor that the administration had focused on developmental programmes.

Babangida said Aliyu had proved his critics wrong with his many achievements in just one year, adding: "We are happy with your performance so far."

He said he was impressed with Aliyu's administration for embarking on policies and programmes that wouldtouch the lives of many Niger citizens.

He urged the governor to remain focused, and continue on the path of "progressive development".

Abdulsalami also commended the governor's programmes toward improving the lives of the people, and called for prayers for the peace and development of the state.

Responding, Aliyu thanked the two leaders for the visit, and promised that his administration would remain committed to its vision and mission.

"My mission is to take the state from its current state to one of the top three economies in Nigeria by the year 2020," he said.
