Kampala — Security officials in Kira town, Wakiso district, have resolved that all bodaboda operators register with the police and wear uniforms bearing their registration numbers.
This was revealed by Patrick Mungasa, the officer in charge of traffic, on Wednesday. He was addressing over 100 bodaboda operators at Kireka Rehabilitation Centre. He said the registration was aimed at cracking down on criminals and reducing on hit and run incidents.
He called on the cyclists to comply with the order for the good of the town as well as to ensure their own security.
"Registration by the stage managers and at the police posts is free of charge. The earlier one gets registered the better," Mungasa said.
The Kampala Extra Police spokesperson, Simeo Nsubuga, said they had been asked to profile all cyclists in their areas of jurisdiction. "The police regardless of time, will perform searches on suspicious cyclists."
He said registering all the cyclists, giving them standard uniforms and demarcating grounds where they can operate would reduce their role in violent crime.
