Zimbabwe: Moyo, Chimbetu to Tour Mozambique Again

Harare — BARELY a month after conquering Mozambique, two sungura giants - Tongai Moyo and Allan Chimbetu - will return to the neighbouring country in two weeks time for a series of shows being organised by Ghetto Fabulous Entertainment.

The sungura duo's first show has been pencilled in for Tete on October 24 before they proceed to Mutarara the following day.

On October 26, the duo wraps its tour with another double in Manica on their way back home.

The two Gramma Records' "cash cows" -- understood to be busy in the studio putting together their new albums -- intend to launch their respective projects in Mozambique during this tour if all goes according to plan.

Chris Musabayana, the show promoter, was also optimistic about the adventure.

Tongai was also looking forward to the trip set to fortifying his popularity in Mozambique.

"We are looking forward to the Mozambican shows having done well the last month that we performed there.

"To us, the shows are very special since we have a huge constituency in that part of Africa and we are really preparing for the assignment," he said.

The Kwekwe-based artiste said he was happy having been paired with Allan for such a demanding schedule.

"The show has also come at a time when Allan and I have been clicking very well and if you listen to our music, there is variety in the stuff I play and that of Allan.

"But above all, the trip will be the launch pad of our regional shows as we are set to visit Botswana and many countries afterwards," he said.

From Mozambique, Tongai and his Utakataka Express will move to Botswana for more shows.

"Like I said, the focus is now on regional shows and we hope to proceed to Francistown (Botswana) for a joint show with Jeff Mathaeteu."

However, there are genuine fears that most revellers in the city would be starved of entertainment for virtually the next three months as big guns will be out most of the time.

Crowd puller Alick Macheso embarks on his maiden tour of the US next week and he will be there for almost the whole of October.

The Charambas will next week bid farewell to their followers as they depart for the US.

The same applies to Oliver Mtukudzi, who is in Australia and has since made it official that he was scaling down on local shows to concentrate on international assignments.
