Uganda: 51 Get Jobs in United Arab Emirates

Kiganda Ssonko

5 October 2008

Kampala — A TOTAL of 51 Ugandans are going to work as guards in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The jobs were secured by Two Niles Public Relations Agency.

Speaking at the company's offices in Kampala before seeing off the guards, the managing director, Abdulrazak Hussein, said the guards were going to work with Al-Futtaim Group, an investment group.

"Al-Futtaim is an agent of Toyota and Honda in the UAE. It also owns Marks and Spencer shops in the same country plus many other businesses. These people are going to offer security services to the group's businesses," Hussein said.

The group that left had 23 guards and Hussein said 28 others would leave before the month ends since their visas were ready.

He said the guards, who are on a two-year contract, would earn $420 (sh680,000) a month plus an annual one-month paid leave, free medical insurance and accommodation.

Hussein said all the jobs were approved by the labour ministry's External Employment Unit.

Since it secured a licence in 2005, Two Niles has exported over 300 Ugandans to the Middle East and Sudan. Hussein said he had already secured another contract to supply 150 Ugandans for shops in Dubai.
