Uganda: Boy Drowns in Jinja Hotel Pool

5 October 2008

Kampala — A 15-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at Hotel Triangle in Jinja town.

The incident happened on Iddi day at about 3:00pm when Ayub Sanyu, in the company of three others, were swimming.

The other unidentified friends were taken to Al-Shafa Medical Centre on Lubas road for treatment.

The hotel's deputy manager, Nusula Nakazi, said the body was retrieved and taken to Jinja hospital mortuary.

The deputy resident district commissioner, Apollo Bwebale, who visited the pool, advised the hotel to always station a life-saver at the pool.

He also advised the hotel management to screen children in order to assess their skills and health before allowing them to swim.
